Since that day, Mohammed has not spoken a single word; his silence has become a wall separating him from the world, and his gaze is drowned in a sorrow too vast for language. A photo of his body was shared on social media on July 31 in the hope someone would recognize him. He lived in poverty with his family in Gaza and, like so many, was starved under siege. Hooda was shot and killed by Israeli forces near the Zikim Crossing, an area where he and other tens of thousands waited desperately for aid. That is where I lost a second cousin on July 20.
