Israel destroyed all of Beit Lahia's agriculture, a core source of produce in Gaza [Original post] Beit Lahia resists with its agricultural projects. We are very proud to announce our partnership with the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (@APNorg ), an organization that is focused on protection of the environment and the natural resources in the Arab region. They’ve already done so much in Gaza since April, supporting farmers in growing over 900 donums of land (900,000 square metres). Our work together aims to provide people in Gaza with self-sustainablity and agency during this transitory time. The first project we are raising funds for is to provide the necessary seeds and germination process for 10 dunoms (100,000 square metres) in Beit Lahia to aid in bringing life back to the most northern areas. The seeds and germination of each donum with vegetables are at a high cost of around $1,500 and trees cost around $700 due to the lack of seeds and tools. Each donum produces between 5,000 - 25,000 kilos of vegetables per season depending on the type of produce and other factors, and trees take two years to produce. This project will mix 7 donums (7000 square metres) of vegetable and 3 donums of trees thinking of the short and long term. The 10 donums will produce on average 100,000 kilos of vegetables in 40 days and 120 trees! It was inhabited by five families, roughly 70 people, in 2008. By 2017, the population of the village was 686. The Palestinian village of Umm Al-Khair, is located in the Masafer Yatta region and Area C of the Occupied West Bank, which is under full Israeli civil and military control. The residents of Umm Al-Khair are a model of resilience in the face of occupation and ethnic cleansing. Their ancestors were expelled from their homes in what is now Israel in 1948 before purchasing the land of their current village. Several decades later, much of their land was confiscated by the Israeli government in order to create a Jewish-only settlement adjacent to the village. For several years, Umm Al-Khair has been under constant threat of demolition and expulsion as the State of Israel seeks to confine Area C Palestinians into ever smaller areas. The residents of the settlement--just a 2 minute walk away--live in swanky modern homes with government-supplied electricity and running water; Umm Al-Khair residents lack permits to build a sufficient number of permanent structures, regularly purchase overpriced tanks for their water, and rely on donated solar panels for limited electricity. The stark contrast between the settlement and Umm Al-Khair is one of the clearest views of Israel's apartheid system. Since October 7, the situation in Umm Al-Khair has become worse than residents can ever remember, and the village's neediest families, all of whom have lost their sources of income due to Israeli travel restrictions and settler violence, urgently need our support. Chronology (ongoing) On June 27, 2024 in the morning the Israeli army raided the village of Umm Al-Khair and destroyed at least 11 homes and structures in the village, including its community tent. 40 people in the village were now newly homeless.

Among them was a bulldozer carrying out excavation and fortification operations in the middle of the road after bypassing a UNIFIL checkpoint in the Mfilha area. A Merkava tank provided cover by firing in front of the force. - The IOF arrested four civilians and injured two others while they attempted to advance in Maroun Al-Ras. - The IOF built earthen barriers, bulldozed an artesian well in Hula, and set homes on fire in Taybeh, near Qantara. - Homes were destroyed by the explosion carried out by the army in Odaisseh and the removal of unexploded ordnance before setting more homes on fire.
