Gen. Avi Bluth. The Israeli army (IDF) uprooted hundreds of olive trees in the West Bank village of Qaryut under a military “security measures” order. The order authorized work on 80 dunams, but the village council says the army exceeded this and uprooted trees on about 150 dunams, most of which are privately owned Palestinian land. Although the order requires a preliminary tour for landowners so they can file objections, residents say no tour was conducted and they were not given a chance to appeal. Video evidence shows the trees were destroyed with bulldozers, making replanting impossible, despite the order describing “relocation.” Residents claim settlers, accompanied by soldiers, carried out much of the work in order to seize control of the village’s western lands.
