Sawafta’s olive trees used to produce around 750 kg of oil annually, serving as the main source of income for his family. In the early years after planting them, he manually irrigated the trees for three years, carrying gallons of water on his back. Since last December, the army has closed off the area for the benefit of the violent settlers. While preventing Sawafta from accessing his olive grove, the settlers appropriated it, using its shade and fences to keep their cattle in. When Sultan Rashed Sawafta was finally granted a permit by the DCO to access his land, he discovered his trees had been vandalized. He also found some carcasses of settler cattle.
