Salim Ibrahim Asfour, a displaced man from the small town of Abasan in southern Gaza, is now a living witness to the famine sweeping the region. He suffers from no illness, yet due to the severe food shortages and closed border crossings for over four months, he has developed acute malnutrition. Salim has lost more than half of his body weight — dropping from 154 lbs (70 kg) to just 88 lbs (40 kg). He and his family of six are surviving under harsh conditions in displacement tents, struggling to find even the smallest amount of food. Journalist Marwa Muslim's body was found under the rubble of her home in eastern Gaza City, days after the IOF bombed it. Marwa was a presenter who spoke daily of the issues that besieged Gazans face under occupation. Intense efforts were undertaken to attempt to save Marwa and her family, following indications that she was still alive. The IOF rejected all coordination and evacuation attempts, however. At least 18 other bodies were recovered from the area. Marwa becomes the 233rd journalist martyr in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

In its latest report, Human Rights Watch (HRW) slammed Israeli occupation forces for committing war crimes at aid distribution points in Gaza, including those backed by the U.S. and the Israeli government. HRW says Israeli troops have repeatedly opened fire on Palestinians seeking food, describing the aid system as “flawed and militarized.” The organization reported that over 850 Palestinians have been killed at or near aid sites since late May, most by Israeli gunfire. HRW also asserted that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war, intentionally depriving civilians of aid and services, which it says could amount to crimes against humanity and genocide. Belkis Wille, HRW's associate crisis and conflict director, stated: “Israeli forces are not only deliberately starving Palestinian civilians, but they are now gunning them down almost every day as they desperately seek food for their families.”
